September 29th 2014 Day 1

8F - Today we discussed the social structure of at the end of the Middle ages. Tomorrow we will be starting a project on the Plague.

7F - Today we talked about the Anishinabe tribe of First Nations. Tomorrow we are going to have our Hodenosaunees quiz and correct the worksheet that the students started today.

Grade 7F ( 7D will get them tomorrow ) was sent home with Field trip forms for our Voyageur Canoe trip. There is a few clarifications. This trip costs 25$ if you are paying by cash or cheque. If paying  online the Social 7 fee is 35$ which will include the 10$ for the Ukrainian Village trip that will happen in May. If you pay online the 35$ you will not be asked to pay the 10$ come May.

September 26th 2014 Day 6

  Today is current events day! Every day 6 we will be discussing various  current events and students will have until the next day 6 to hand in the worksheet.

Grade 7D & F - We discussed the Referendum in Scotland. Students learnt why Scotland was not an independent country by going back in history and looking at the relation between England and Scotland and the merge of those two countries into one United Kingdom, along with Wales and Northern Ireland. The students were very interested and we had good discussions. The worksheet is due on October 6th ( Day 6 )

Grade 8A & E - Today's weekly news was about the Crisis in Ukraine. We discussed the cause and what has been going on since February 2014. Students were given a worksheet to complete and it is due on October 6th ( Day 6).

8F- We discussed the Referendum in Scotland. September 22nd 2014 Day 2

8F- Today we started talking about what started the Renaissance and what the word Renaissance actually means. Students were reminded that they have until 11:59pm tonight to turn in their Worldviews project on Google Classroom.

7F- Today we learnt about the Mi'kmaq people. The way they organize their villages, their government and how they make decisions for resolving problems or conflicts. There will be a quiz on Wednesday.

9F - Today we started learning about the legislative power at the Federal government level.  We will continue this tomorrow. Do not forget that your projects are due tonight by 11:59pm.

September 18th 2014 Day 1

8F and 8A - Both grade 8 classes had one last period to work on their first projects that are due on Monday September 22nd.

7F- Continued leaning about first nations legends of creation.

This afternoon we held the Conroy Classic @ Lede Park. Students ran their hearts out and did a fantastic job. Good Job everyone!

September 17th 2014 Day 6

7F & 7D - The grade 7s worked on taking notes about the first nations people and their beliefs.

All the Grade 8s and 9s continued work on their projects that are all due on Monday September 22nd.



September 16th 2014 Day 5

7D - Students took notes on the first nations people, ( the notes contained answers to their worksheet) and then completed the first worksheet. This afternoon they will continue with notes.

Grade 8 & 9 students have started working on their first project of the year! It is due on Monday the 22nd of September.

7F - Completed the first worksheet and should have handed it in. They have until Wednesday to hand it in.

September 15th 2014 Day 4

9F - Students who were not able to finish the worksheet for homework were given 1 final period to work on it. The students that did hand it in on time were given the reward of a free period to work silently on other school work.

7F - Students continued working on a worksheet. Questions 1-5 are to be finished for tomorrow.

8E - Students started working on a worldview project to finish of the introduction to grade 8 Social Studies curriculum. ( They continued this during our second block in the afternoon)

7D (double) - Continued working on the worksheet that was assigned from last week. Questions 1-9 should be finished for tomorrow. I believe most student had time to finish in class as we did have a double period.

8A - Students continued working on a worldview project that will finish off the introduction to the Social 8 Curriculum. This project is due on Monday September 22nd.

Meet the Teacher Night!

September 11th 2014 Day 2

8F- Students started work on a worksheet about world views. The computers were again acting up. They have since been fix and are now working perfectly!

8A - Today we discussed what happened 13 years ago in New York city and its impact on our world today.

7F - We discussed the importance of remembering 9/11. We also talked a little bit about the Sr John Franklin expedition form the 1800s, because of the discovery of one of it ships this past Sunday.

8A- Continued with World view discussion and started to talk about a new current event...The discovery of one of the boats from the Franklin Expedition from the mid 1800s!!

7D -Today we discussed the discovery of one of the boats from the Franklin Expedition that was abandoned in the ice in the mid 1800s.

9F - We started talking about the Franklin expedition from the mid 1800s but were interrupted by the lock down. I was very impressed with their maturity during the lock down procedures.

September 10th 2014 Day 1

8F - Today we continued discussing worldviews, and started taking notes on how we can figure out our worldview and what factors influence it.

8A- Today we discussed how stories in the past were a great way to express a specific worldview. Students learnt that with story telling even in the modern day (songs, movies etc...) the authors still able to convey a message of their worldview.

7F - We started a worksheet on pages 7-13, on google classroom. We will continue this worksheet tomorrow.

Eastern Canada Tour!

Have you ever wanted to visit Eastern Canada?? Have you wanted to visit cities such as Montréal, Québec and our nations capital Ottawa??

Well now is your chance! École Leduc Jr High is taking its French Immersion and French as a Second Language Students in grades 8 and 9 on an Eastern Canada trip at the end of June 2015. Students are asked to come to a short information meeting on Thursday September 11th in Rm 7 @ 12:30, if they are interested. We will also have some information available for interested parents at the Meet the Teacher night Thursday evening.

September 9th 2014 Day 6

PICTURE DAY!!

7F - Today we only had half a class because the second part of our 40 minutes together was used to take our pictures. In that 20 minutes we reviewed the time line that was finished for homework and started looking into the definitions of key words such as Culture, Values and Point of view. Tomorrow we will continue these key words.

8A - Students were called down to take their pictures during the first portion of this block. Once we were all back in class we were able to continue our discussion and note taking on Worldviews.

8F - Today we started exploring in more depth the concept of Worldviews. We started with some questions and were almost finished when the bell rang. Question 5 and 6 need to be finished for homework. See Google classroom for the power point.

9F - Double Block! Today we discussed the different forms of government. I am very impressed with the interest the grade 9s are showing this year in class! Thursday we will be discussing the role of the Governor General

September 8th 2014 Day 5

7D -  This morning the Grade Assemblies were happening in the small gym by gender. As the girls were called down first I was left with 6 boys! The boys were lucky enough to get to watch a french TV show while we waited for the girls to return.

8A -  Today we discussed Worldview with the help of pages 2-8 in the textbook, and answer a few introductory questions.  The Power Point is on the classroom.

9F - We started learning about the Government of Canada, how many levels of government there are and what the 3 main powers are. Tomorrow we will be going into more detail on each section. The power point that is on the classroom will be updated once we have filled in the blanks as a class.

8F - Boys were missing for half the period due to the grade assemblies. Students were able to finish off their worldle projects. If they did not have time to finish them they are due tomorrow morning.

8E - Today we discussed Worldview with the help of pages 2-8 in the textbook, and answer a few introductory questions.  The Power Point is on the classroom.

7D- During the second block we started learning about the First Nations. The students filled out a time line of Canada up to the Confederation. If they were unable to finish the time line they need to finish it for tomorrow.

September 5th 2014 Day 4

9F - Today was an introduction to political cartoons. Students were asked to analyse a few cartoons with no previous knowledge on the subject to see how much information they could pull from the pictures.

7F -  Students finished the textbook scavenger hunt, and we corrected it. Monday we start chapter one of the Social Studies 7 curriculum.

8E-Today we started an introduction activity to Worldviews and identity. Students were asked to create a wordle that represents who they are. This project will be finished and handed in tomorrow, and I will be posting them on our Social Studies 8 bulletin board.

7D - Today the students worked on a text book scavenger hunt. This will help them understand what certain icons in the book mean as well as where to find information when doing research. During our second block together we corrected the worksheet. Monday we will be starting chapter one!

8A- Today we worked on the wordle project. It if isn't finished the students are expected to finish it for Monday.

8F - We began talking about worldviews and identity. Students were asked to create a wordle to show what their identity is. They will have one more class on Monday and it will be due at the end of the day.

Sr Girls Volleyball

Thank you to all 20 girls who came out for tryouts this year! You all did great and made my job very difficult. Final team roaster will be posted in the girls change room on Friday morning, and there will be a team meeting in Rm 7 at 12:30. Please be sure to be there.

September 4th 2014 Day 3

9F-   Today the students were introduced to Google Classroom and completed the assignment that was given to make sure everything works. We were also able to play a little guess who game to get to know the class a bit better. Tomorrow the students will be diving into the grade 9 Social Studies curriculum.

7F - Today the students worked on a text book scavenger hunt. This will help them understand what certain icons in the book mean as well as where to find information when doing research.

8E - Google Classroom was a success today! Almost all the students were able to access it and get the first mini assignment done. We had a few issues with our class net books but we were able to get most of them resolved. Tomorrow we will start talking about worldviews and identity.

7D - Today I introduced Google classroom to the students. They are already pros at it thanks to a few other teachers using it!!

8F- Google classroom is up and running in 8F. Some of our net books are out of commission, but thankfully so many students are embracing the new BYOD program.

Sr Girls Volleyball!!

Tryout #1 was a success with 17 girls in attendance. The FINAL tryout will be tomorrow from 5-6:30. Team roster will be posted in the girls change room on Friday morning.

September 3rd 2014 Day 2

8F - Went through course outline, and played a guess who game that we will finish tomorrow during our double block. Tomorrow the students will be fully introduced to the Google Classroom and will complete a very short assignment to test out that the program works for everyone.

8A -  We went through the course outline, and I had the students fill in an All About Me sheet to get to know them a bit better. During our second block together, the students were able to log into the Google Classroom app and most completed the first short assignment ( to make sure everything was working). They were asked to complete the Assignment for homework if they were not able to complete it in class.

7F - Today 7F was able to get onto the Google Classroom app and complete the very short assignment to test to make sure it was working. Most students were able to finish, if they did not it is for homework for tomorrow.

7D - Today 7D was introduced to the course outline for Études Sociales 7. We finished off the class by filling out a all about me worksheet, so I can get to know the students a bit better! Tomorrow they will be introduced to the Google Classroom app where the majority of this years class work will be distributed and submitted.

First Day!

Welcome back!

Today the 8F class ( my homeroom ) spent the entire morning with me, going over the student handbook, many different important forms that have been sent home. The students have also been briefly introduced to the New Google Classroom app that will be used as a constant this school year in my class. They will be signed up tomorrow!

The 7F class was given the course outline and we read it through together. Tomorrow they will be introduced and be able to log into the Google Classroom App that will be used constantly in my class this year.  I was super impressed with the amount of french that I was hearing in this class!
