December 16th 2015 Day 2

  Today in our first block we practiced our verbs on the website Conjuguemos.com. During the second block we wrote the ER and IR verb test.

December 15th 2015 Day 6

   Today students were given two periods to work on their project that is Due on January 6th 2015, or to study for their chapter 3 test that is to take place on Thursday December 17th 2015

  Today we continued working on our  Monde en March reading comprehension. Students are learning how to read texts with different topics and different vocabulary.  Yesterday we started our first Monde en March ( What in the World) talking about the Attacks that happened in Paris on November 13th 2015.

Today we started our next unit of Live Action and Si-Fi movies. The movie we started today was Back to the Future (PG). We will continue with this film when we get back in January.

   Students continued to work on their video/skit projects. The projects are really coming together I am looking forward to seeing them in the New Year.

December 10th 2015 Day 4

    Students were given both Social periods to work on their projects. Most have finished their texts and are working on the script before they start filming the projects. Keep up the great work 7F Projects are due on January 11 2016.

FSL 7
    Today I introduced er and ir verbs. We took notes did some practice on paper and then we worked on a verb game online to build up our abilities. Students recorded their best marks in PowerSchool as a formative assessment. We will be having a verb test on Wednesday December 16th 2015. The test will be on the ER and IR verbs. Students are encouraged to use the website for extra practice as well and to come see me if they need more help.

   Today we went over some more reading comprehension strategies. We worked on going through a text and find the right information when answering questions. Students were asked to highlight the answer to each question in the text and put the number beside it. We practiced this together and then students were given 2 more texts to work on. These are due on Monday ( we do not have french tomorrow) and I will be taking at least one of them in as a sommative assessment. Students were asked to use a highlighter and highlight each answer like we did in practice.

      Today we discussed a few case studies where the Charter of Rights and Freedoms were violated. We got a bit off topic but had a good discussion about how violent videos games & violent news reports or movies have started to influence everyone in a negative way.
     Students were asked to study for our upcoming test on Chapter 3 during our second block or to work on their Chapter 3 projects. Test is on Thursday December 17th 2015 and Project is due on the 6th of January 2016.

     During today double period students worked on their skit projects. It is awesome to see all students engaged and working  hard on this project! Keep it up 7H!!

    Today we practice our ER verb conjugations by playing some online verb games. Students marks were inputted to PowerSchool  as a formative assessment. There will be a Not so PoP POP QUIZ on the ER verbs on Monday December 14 2015.

    Today we had an awesome french cultural activity. We learnt how to play the spoons and sing a few french cultural songs. We then went outside and had some "Tire sur la Neige"! it was a great class!

      Today we looked at case studies. We learnt why our government suspended certain group's rights and freedoms, because of what was going on in the world. ie: Forcing Japanese citizens into camps after the bombings of Pearl Harbor. Students were then asked to complete the next 2 case studies that relate more to Canadian citizens and not world events. We will be reviewing these tomorrow. Chapter 3 test is set for Thursday, December 17th 2015

     Today we finished off the ``litteratie en action`` activity that we started a few classes ago.  Students created graphic organizers in partners to help summarize the texts that they read.  Once finished students were asked to start work on the vocabulary worksheet that accompanied the previous worksheets.

    Today we finished our animation unit. We started working on our Flip book animation projects. These projects are due at the beginning of class on the 15th of December 2015.

     Today we started our unit 2 (chapter 2/3) project.  Students were asked to get into groups of 2, I then assigned 2 groups of 2 to work together. Each group of 4 was asked to .....
Project is Due on January 11th 2016 - There will be no time in class given that first week in January. It will be the week designated to finalizing the videos at home.

    Today students worked with the reading comprehension strategies that we have been learning together, in order to understand 4 different texts in our text book.  Students started off individually reading and completing the 3 of the strategies solo (visualizing, verifying comprehension by asking questions, and interpreting photos) They were then asked to work in partners with someone that read the same texts as them on the graphic organizer together. This activity will be completed during our next block of FLA on Friday Dec 4th 2015.

    Today was another study period for our test on Friday. I was able to go through all the sticky notes with the students and then had them write out new ones with things they still need some clarification on. I will go over these with the students during our class tomorrow. Happy Studying!

   Students presented their Weather report projects. Well done to all students you guys did a really good job! Next class students are asked to bring paper, we will be starting our grammar unit. Yay verbes!!

       Today was another study period for our test on Friday. I was able to go through all the sticky notes with the students. Tomorrow will be our last study class.     Today we worked on a activity that looked at how the government violated certain right from our charter in certain situations. We looked at how the First Nations were discriminated against based on old treaties, how certain nationality like the Italians, Germans and Ukrainians were treated unjustly because of what was going on during the World Wars.  Students were given two periods to work on this activity, if they did not finish it, they were asked to complete it for homework.

   Today we looked at 3 different reading strategies to help with comprehension. 1. What questions to ask to help verify comprehension 2. Interpreting photos 3. Summarizing what you read.
    Students used the our Litératie en Action text book and we read a text about Gabon in Africa.  We worked together to create a graphic organizer to help with summarizing the entire text.  This is the one we created together :

    Today we discussed the details of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. There will be a "not so pop POP quiz" on Friday December 4th 2015. Students are advised to memorize page 6 in their workbooks. If you missed class today, see pages 97-98 in your textbook to fill in the blanks on page 6 and be prepared for the Quiz on Friday.

      Today we did two things. First I explained and handed out the permission forms for our activity day that will take place on December 18th 2015. We ask that you pay online, if you you are unable to please send exact cash along with the permission form before December 10th 2015.
      Secondly, I handed out a study guide to the students on Chapter 3. The test is on December 4th 2015. Students were asked to study individually today and go through the study guide by picking out everything they can answer quickly. Tomorrow I will be going around with sticky notes. Students will be writing down 1 thing they know very well and 2 things they need clarifications on. I will then go around individually to each student to re-explain the concepts they need help with.
     Reminder to all students that I am available every lunch hour, before school (8am) as well as after school if they would like some extra one on one study help. All I ask is that students give me a heads up that they are coming!

November 23rd 2015 Day 4

     - Verb quizzes as not yet mark I apologize. This Thursday (Grammar Day) students will be given their test back, they will be allowed to go and correct all the mistakes that are not corrected for them already. If they properly correct the mistake they will be given 0.5 extra per correct correction. This will then be added to their test make and then entered into PowerSchool after.
     - Today we took our first reading strategy and used it while reading an article in our text book Littératie en action. Today we visualized as we were reading to help us create pictures in our heads in order to better understand the text.

      Today we listened to the story of the Béothuk nation. The nation that was completely wiped out because of the British fisherman's violence as well as the disease that they brought over to the New Worlds. We also talked about how Halifax was created and why the English now had land in the once thriving Colony of Acadia.

FSL 7
   Students continued to work on their Weather Projects. These projects are due on December 2nd 2015 we will be presenting them that day!. Students had 80 minutes today and they have another 80 minutes on Monday November 30th 2015 to complete their projects.
   
Social Studies 7H
    Today we discussed the Origins of The Hudson's Bay company in detail. We learnt how the French and English battled for control over the Fort that were built on the Bay. In the end the English were allowed to keep this territory thanks to the Treaty of Utrecht that was signed in Europe.
     We then discussed the how the French were sneaky and cut off the Fur supply  of the English by travelling, down the rivers to meet the First Nations that were on their way to trade with the English.  Tomorrow we will be discussing how this irritated the English and led to them sending out their own explorers to find new lands and new First Nations to trade with out WEST.

November 20th 2015 Day 3

     Today we started reviewing for the Chapter 2 test that will take place on November 25th 2015. 
     Students continued to study for their chapter 2 test during our second block this afternoon.

     Today we reviewed together the individual work from yesterday. We then proceeded to learn about John Cabot and why he was important.
     During our second block we listened to the story of the Beothuk Nation, and learnt the reasons that they no longer exist today.

     Today we  ahd a individual work period. Students were asked to pull out the important information out of the 1 page assigned to read about the differences in the 13 colonies and the colonie of New France.  We will be reviewing this together tomorrow.

November 18th 2015 Day 1

    Today we had a work period. Students worked on the last few pages f our chapter 2 workbook. If they had finished those last few pages they worked on a review package. Their chapter 2 test will be coming up next week.

     Because the girls were gone today on a field trip all morning we took things a bit easier with the Boys. During our first block we work on some reading comprehension. The second period we had some fun playing french board games such as Scrabble (french edition) and Cranium (french Edition).

Reminder there is a grammar test Tomorrow on the following verbs: Présent, Imparfait, Passé Composé, Future Simple.

      This afternoon we looked at what resources were transferred from continent to continent. We also looked at the reasons why the British decided to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

November 17th 2015 Day 6

     Today we reviewed the term Mercantilism and continued on to look at how each group of people involved in the economic system felt about it. We looked at the perspective of the First Nations, the English Colonists, the English Merchants and the King of England (at the time). Students were asked to express each groups perceptive by drawing an emoji showing how they felt about mercantilism in the box provided.
   Tomorrow we will be looking at what resources, come from the Home Countries and what is given  to the colonies.

    Today we learned what strategies we can used to help up fully understand articles that we read. We worked in 2 different groups, our first set of groups read the strategies and became experts in each strategy. We then redivided into our second set of groups. These groups contained 1 expert from each of the 4 strategy groups. The experts then taught their strategy to their new groups.
  The 4 strategies we worked on today were Visualizing, Verifying your comprehension, Interpreting Photos and Summarizing and Organizing information.
   We will be using these 4 strategies through out this unit as we continue to read articles.
Reminder Grammar test on Verbs : Présent, Imparfait, Future Simple & Passé Composé Thursday November 19th 2015

   Today we went through a list of clothing items and learnt their names in french. Students were then given their Fashion Project! They will be interview celebrities on the Red Carpet for the TV show ET Canada Francophone! They will be discussing the celebrities fashion choices as well as their own! This project will be due on December 4th 2015.  Students can either tap their interview before the due date or present in in class live!

    Today we worked on a few case studies. Students were asked to read a situation and decide weather or not the young offender should be given a extrajudicial measure or sanction. Students were then asked to make a judgment on the penalty that the offender should receive and to justify their reasoning. Most students were able to finish this in class, if they did not it is required that they finish it for homework and hand it in on Monday.

 In our last block together we looked at why the British decided to cross the Atlantic ocean and come to North America. We looked at reasons such as : economy, competition, better quality of life and the freedom of religion. We also looked at where exactly the 13 colonies where in comparison to New France.

November 16th 2015 Day 5

     Today we continued to talk about what it means to be healthy. We looked at what factors in our own life contribute to us being healthy. We discussed and worked on activities on the physical aspect of our health, students were asked to look back at their weekend to see if they achieved the standard 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Students were also asked to fill out a weekly schedule to see if they are meeting this standard and if not to see where they could add in some more physical activity.
   Next class we look at how important sleep it to staying healthy!

    Today we started chapter 3 The British in North America. We looked at pictures and discussed why these images will be important to chapter 3. These pictures showed us that The English colonized the area that will be come the US and called in the 13 colonies. We looked at a map that showed the start of the English exploration to the western parts of Canada.

    Today we had our Remembrance Day Ceremony. The students behaved appropriately Thanks you very much 7F.

    After the ceremony, Corporal Desjardin visited our class and the students had the opportunity to ask him questions about his work and what inspired him to enter into the military.

   Today we had our conversation presentations. Marks have been entered into PowerSchool. Next week we will continue on with our next unit of study.

      During this class we read and discussed articles from the Canada Remember's Times, a new paper published every year around Remembrance Day. Students were allowed to take these home if they wanted to.

      Today we started chapter 3 by viewing a few videos in regards to the English coming to North America. Monday we start our chapter 3 workbook.

November 9th 2015 Day 3

     Today we had a presentation today about an exchange program available to our Students. This is an exchange program with France. Many students took home brochures.

7H Social Studies
     Today we read the Canada Remembers Times. A news paper that is made each year around Remembrance Day. Students had about 25 minutes to read and discuss.

FSL 8
    Today we presented our final conversations.  We then relaxed a bit and watched some french magic school bus to end our first quarter together. We will resume our fashion unit after the November break.

     Today we discussed Remembrance Day we read some articles and discussed their importance and what we found interesting. We will continue with chapter 2 upon the return of the November break.

November 6th 2015 Day 2

    Today we had our Chapter 2 test. Students were asked to stay for a few minutes to finish the test after school if they needed too. ( there was an event at lunch)  I will be giving the students extra time on Monday to finish is as many didn't come after school or had to take the bus.

     As I mentioned to the class yesterday, there was a pop quiz today. This PoP Quiz was a formative assessment to see how comprehension is going during our first part of Chapter 2. Students who were not here yesterday will be writing it on Monday.

November 5th 2015 Day 1

      Today first watched a short video from Global news shoeing Justin Trudeau being sworn in as our 23rd Prime Minister. We then discussed in more detail What exactly does the YCJA entails and how it is used to protect ans rehabilitate young offenders. There was mention on a POP quiz on pages 5-6 in our workbook. Students are advise to review these pages tonight.

    Today we did grammar. We learnt about how to conjugate verbs in the ``passé composé``. Students learnt that in order to properly conjugate the verb they need to have both an `auxiliaire` and the Participe Passé. There will be a test on all the verbs we have learnt from the beggining of the year on November 19th 2015. The verbs are Présent, Imparfait, Future Simple et Passé Composé.

We finished the Lion King (1994) we then stepped into the world of 1995 animations and started watching Toy Story.

   Today we were able to get through part 2 and 3 of the french conversation. Students will be presenting these conversations during the next class.

    Today we started working on Chapter 2. Chapter 2 we will be discussing the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

  Today we started Unit 2 called ``A planet to save``. We will be reading news reports that will have to do with this topic. We will also be learning to write a personal responses to theses news reports.

    Today we discussed what it takes to be healthy. We determined that to be fully healthy everyone needs to be aware of their Physical Health, Emotional Health and Social Health. We will be continuing these discussions next class :D

   Today was an individual study period. With the sticky notes that the students wrote yesterday I was able to go around to each student and explain the concepts that they did not understand.    Today we Started our third unit. We are watching the progression of animation. Our first film is Lion King (1994) and we will be watching movies from 1994 all the way to 2014. We will be comparing the animations with a project at the end of the unit.

November 2nd 2015 Day 4

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween weekend.  Please be advised that Candy/Chips/unhealthy snack is only allowed in my classroom during the 12:11- 12:30 lunch period. Students will be asked to toss any and all candy that is found in my class during class hours. Healthy snacks are allowed to be eaten anytime in class as long as they are not distracting to other students. 

7F FLA
    Today we started working on a few reading comprehension texts. We will be doing these periodically through out the rest of the year to help getting reading for our midterm and finals which are majority reading comprehension

7F ES
    Today we finished off our chapter 2 notes. We talked about Pierre Radisson and his explorations of the great lakes and the Husdon's Bay.  Our second block we started studying for our chapter 2 test. Students were each given sticky note and asked to write 2 things they understand and 2 things they need help on. These sticky notes were handed in and will be reviewed in our next class. The test will take place on November 6th 2015.

     Today we started learning our first conversation. Students were asked to work in partners practicing the conversation that I went over with them.

    Today we worked on a chapter 1 practice test.  We also had time to review all the answers. Their test is on Friday October 30th 2015.

7F FLA
    Students had a double block to work on their Novel Study final project. They should be done their Rough draft and be starting on the good copy. Project is Due Monday November 2nd 2015.

      We continued watching Enchanted.

    Today we discussed the government of New France. We will continue this discussion tomorrow!

October 26th 2015 Day 5

   Today we finished off watching Matilda. We discussed why it is so important to be true to who you are and not be afraid of being unique.
    During our second block we started talking about how to stay organised at school and at home. As it is the end of October I gave students time to re-organize their binders and lockers  with my help and the help of our SWAT students.

  Today we did some mapping. Learning where the first 2 colonies of New France were located. We Learnt that Pierre de Monts founded Port-Royal and that Samuel de Champlain founded the city of Québec.

ES 7F
 Today we finished off our representations of the story of Jacques Cartier. We then proceeded to learn a bit more about Samuel de Champlain and how he help found Acadia.

Film Studies 8
We finished Mary Poppins and started our final Film in our live action meets animation unit. We are watching Enchanted (2007)

     While I was away students worked on questions regarding how the media affects how laws are passed.

7H SS
     Today we continued talking about Imperialism. Students also learnt some new vocabulary words that we will use a lot in Chapter 2.

FSL 8
    We started our second unit on clothing.

9F ES
   This afternoon we debated the bills that the students made. We had a great class pretending to pass laws such as creating a cafeteria, and rejecting law such as making gym classes longer. We have 2 more laws to complete debating and we will do so in our next class.

   Today was our reading period in the library.

October 16th 2015 Day 5

Health 7E
       Today we started watching a movie that discusses the theme of being true to yourself and not letting others tell you who you should be. We will continue watching Matilda next week. This movie fits nicely into our unit on being Unique.

7H SS
    Students wrote their chapter 1 test. Those that did not finish will be given more time on Monday to finish the test.

7F ES
     Students wrote their Chapter 1 tests. If they needed more time they were asked to come in at lunch to finish it.

Film 8
  WE continued watching Mary Poppins and then went and watched the volleyball game in the gym that was taking place for our Panthers Tournament.

     Today we discussed the Student vote that happened in the afternoon. As we didn't have social yesterday I gave my students an extra period to study for their social studies test that will take place tomorrow.

7F ES
    Students continued studying in partners. Students Voted in our afternoon period! :D

FSL 7
   We finished off our presentations. We then started our end of the Unit movie. We are watching Matilda in french. Unfortunately the subtitles weren't available, to make up for it I am stopping the movie every few minutes to explain some parts of the movie. Luckily the majority of the class has seen this movie in English.

   Today the students had the whole period minus about 10 minutes to study. Those Ten minutes were used to participate in our Student Vote! Test is Tomorrow.

   This morning students finished up taking down notes on the political party that I grouped them into.

7H SS
    Today class was spent explaining the student vote. We then took a short online quiz to see what party shared the same view as the students. Students were asked to then research the party that showed up on their results and look into their platforms.
     At the end of class students were given time to discuses their findings and opinions with fellow students.

FSL 8
    Today we started a film study to end our Animal Unit... we watched Madagascar 2 in French ( with English subtitles). We will be working on a worksheet next class.

9F ES
    Student groups presented their political parties. They will be Voting in Student Vote tomorrow.

7F FLA
   Day 3 is our Library Reading Period. Students read in the library their french book of choice. Don forget to renew if you need too!

    Today we presented our seeing is believing projects. We some technical difficulties with some projects and were not able to show them to the class.
    I also handed out a study guide to the students. Their Chapter 1 Test is set for Friday October 16th 2015.

7F ES
     Today we started working on a study guide for their chapter 1 test that will take place on October 16th 2015. 

     We Also discussed the Student Vote and The students shared what they know about each of the Candidates.

7F FLA
    Today we continued in our novel study. We looked at chapter 7 Vocab, Read Chapter 7 and then completed the questions for Chapter 7.

   Today we presented our Schools. Those that were on a school field trip will be presenting next class. We then started in our grammar books!

   Today we continued with our research on the political parties. Each group will be presenting its platforms on Wednesday.

October 8th 2015 Day 1

    - Today the students were asked to complete 2 different online quizzes that would help them understand where they stood on political questions. These quizzes also helped to show them what party they tend to side with in this election.
   - During our second block, I groups the student sup to research the 5 major political parties. Each groups had a minimum of 5 students what were researching together the Parties Platforms. Tomorrow we will be continuing this research and next week we will be sharing it with each other in order to make our final decisions to make an informed student vote on October 15th.

  Today we learnt how to conjugate verbs at the imperfect tense ( Imparfait).
After our note taking students were asked to complete the 3 worksheets on the Imparfait tense for the following day one.

   - Today we presented our I am Unique Projects.  We then took a look in the magazine The Grip and read some articles and discussed their importance to the.

7H SS
   - Students worked on their projects. I made a slight modification because of a problem on We Video. Students are now allowed to create a powerpoint presentation but with the same information as the video was supposed to have.

7F ES
  - Today was the last class to work on the video project. We will be presenting these projects tomorrow.

Film 8
  - Today we worked on our progression of sound and color projects. Those that did not finish were asked to complete them for next class.
   - We then began our second unit. Animation meets live action.. First on the Screan----- SPACE JAM!!

   - Today we had our last day to work on the Create your own school project. Students handed in the project to me and we will be presenting on Wednesday!

     - Today students worked on and handed in at the end of the period the Mini-A fleur de peau project. Wednesday we will continue reading the book.

    - Today we continued with our election modules. Today's discussion was about political parties and what importance they have with in the election process.
    - During the second block we wrote a short formative quiz for lessons 1-3. Marks will be up shortly.
    - Marks for the Cabinet project will be in after this weekend. I apologies for the delay.

7F FLA
    - Today we wrote our first Grammar Test. Marks are already on Powerschool and Test have been put in pick up bin. Girls that were at cross country will write them tomorrow.

Film 8
   - Finished up our first unit of introduction to sound and color. Students started the first project which is creating a project that shows the progression of sound and color. It is due at the end of the next class ( Tuesday October 6th 2015)

   - Today we started our project for Chapter 1. This project is due on Friday October 10th. They will have 6 classes to work on it.

    Today we reviewed the Anishinabee worksheet that students completed last week. There is a short Formative quiz tomorrow.

  -  Today I gave the students time to finish off the chapter 3/4 questions and work on our chapter 5 vocabulary. We will continue reading chapter 5 on Tuesday.

7F ES
  -  As a review for students and a treat for their great work the past few weeks, we watched an episode of Canada "Une Histoire Populaire".  The episode that we watched told other legends of the way that the first nations groups believed that they came to be on the land we now call Canada.
  - During our second period we completed 3 little formative quizzes ( online) based on the information we have learnt from our text and discussions on the First Nations.
   - They were also supposed to be sent home with a field trip form.....but I forgot... They will get them on Monday! Sorry!

FSL 7
  -  Students continued to work on their create a school project. The project will be due on October 5th 2015 and the presentations will start on October 9th 2015

7H
  - Today we reviewed the Haudenosaunee worksheet the students did in class yesterday. The rest of the class was spent finishing up the worksheet on the Anishinabe. We will review this on Monday and there will be a formative quiz on Tuesday September 29th 2015.
