    Today Students were given another block to study. They filled out the Sticky Note activity ( 1 thing they understand and 2 they don't) I will be going over these questions with them on Wednesday. Test is Friday December 4th 2015.

  Today was the students last class to finished up their project.  Presentations commence on Wednesday December 3rd 2015

   Today we looked at 3 different reading strategies to help with comprehension. 1. What questions to ask to help verify comprehension 2. Interpreting photos 3. Summarizing what you read.
    Students used the our Litératie en Action text book and we read a text about Gabon in Africa.  We worked together to create a graphic organizer to help with summarizing the entire text.  This is the one we created together :

   Students were asked to finish their Reading Comprehension #2 for tomorrow

    Today we discussed the details of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. There will be a "not so pop POP quiz" on Friday December 4th 2015. Students are advised to memorize page 6 in their workbooks. If you missed class today, see pages 97-98 in your textbook to fill in the blanks on page 6 and be prepared for the Quiz on Friday.

November 25th 2015 Day 6

Social Studies 7H 
      Today we did two things. First I explained and handed out the permission forms for our activity day that will take place on December 18th 2015. We ask that you pay online, if you you are unable to please send exact cash along with the permission form before December 10th 2015.
      Secondly, I handed out a study guide to the students on Chapter 3. The test is on December 4th 2015. Students were asked to study individually today and go through the study guide by picking out everything they can answer quickly. Tomorrow I will be going around with sticky notes. Students will be writing down 1 thing they know very well and 2 things they need clarifications on. I will then go around individually to each student to re-explain the concepts they need help with.
     Reminder to all students that I am available every lunch hour, before school (8am) as well as after school if they would like some extra one on one study help. All I ask is that students give me a heads up that they are coming!

   Today we had a presenter come in a work with our students. We discussed Relationships. This workshop will continue during our next two classes.

     Today we finished looking at the English explorers that explores the western part of To be Canada. We finished Chapter 3 today and our Chapter 3 test is set for Friday December 4th 2015. Study guides will be given out by Thursday.

November 23rd 2015 Day 4

FLA 7F
     - Verb quizzes as not yet mark I apologize. This Thursday (Grammar Day) students will be given their test back, they will be allowed to go and correct all the mistakes that are not corrected for them already. If they properly correct the mistake they will be given 0.5 extra per correct correction. This will then be added to their test make and then entered into PowerSchool after.
     - Today we took our first reading strategy and used it while reading an article in our text book Littératie en action. Today we visualized as we were reading to help us create pictures in our heads in order to better understand the text.

      Today we listened to the story of the Béothuk nation. The nation that was completely wiped out because of the British fisherman's violence as well as the disease that they brought over to the New Worlds. We also talked about how Halifax was created and why the English now had land in the once thriving Colony of Acadia.

FSL 7
   Students continued to work on their Weather Projects. These projects are due on December 2nd 2015 we will be presenting them that day!. Students had 80 minutes today and they have another 80 minutes on Monday November 30th 2015 to complete their projects.
   
Social Studies 7H
    Today we discussed the Origins of The Hudson's Bay company in detail. We learnt how the French and English battled for control over the Fort that were built on the Bay. In the end the English were allowed to keep this territory thanks to the Treaty of Utrecht that was signed in Europe.
     We then discussed the how the French were sneaky and cut off the Fur supply  of the English by travelling, down the rivers to meet the First Nations that were on their way to trade with the English.  Tomorrow we will be discussing how this irritated the English and led to them sending out their own explorers to find new lands and new First Nations to trade with out WEST.

November 20th 2015 Day 3

     Today we started reviewing for the Chapter 2 test that will take place on November 25th 2015. 
     Students continued to study for their chapter 2 test during our second block this afternoon.

     Today we reviewed together the individual work from yesterday. We then proceeded to learn about John Cabot and why he was important.
     During our second block we listened to the story of the Beothuk Nation, and learnt the reasons that they no longer exist today.

FSL 8
    Students continued working on the fashion project. This project is due on December 4th 2015.

     Today we  ahd a individual work period. Students were asked to pull out the important information out of the 1 page assigned to read about the differences in the 13 colonies and the colonie of New France.  We will be reviewing this together tomorrow.

November 18th 2015 Day 1

    Today we had a work period. Students worked on the last few pages f our chapter 2 workbook. If they had finished those last few pages they worked on a review package. Their chapter 2 test will be coming up next week.

     Because the girls were gone today on a field trip all morning we took things a bit easier with the Boys. During our first block we work on some reading comprehension. The second period we had some fun playing french board games such as Scrabble (french edition) and Cranium (french Edition).

Reminder there is a grammar test Tomorrow on the following verbs: Présent, Imparfait, Passé Composé, Future Simple.

      This afternoon we looked at what resources were transferred from continent to continent. We also looked at the reasons why the British decided to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

November 17th 2015 Day 6

     Today we reviewed the term Mercantilism and continued on to look at how each group of people involved in the economic system felt about it. We looked at the perspective of the First Nations, the English Colonists, the English Merchants and the King of England (at the time). Students were asked to express each groups perceptive by drawing an emoji showing how they felt about mercantilism in the box provided.
   Tomorrow we will be looking at what resources, come from the Home Countries and what is given  to the colonies.

We also looked at what resources come from the Home Counties and what resources the colonies sent out.

    Today we learned what strategies we can used to help up fully understand articles that we read. We worked in 2 different groups, our first set of groups read the strategies and became experts in each strategy. We then redivided into our second set of groups. These groups contained 1 expert from each of the 4 strategy groups. The experts then taught their strategy to their new groups.
  The 4 strategies we worked on today were Visualizing, Verifying your comprehension, Interpreting Photos and Summarizing and Organizing information.
   We will be using these 4 strategies through out this unit as we continue to read articles.
Reminder Grammar test on Verbs : Présent, Imparfait, Future Simple & Passé Composé Thursday November 19th 2015

   Today we went through a list of clothing items and learnt their names in french. Students were then given their Fashion Project! They will be interview celebrities on the Red Carpet for the TV show ET Canada Francophone! They will be discussing the celebrities fashion choices as well as their own! This project will be due on December 4th 2015.  Students can either tap their interview before the due date or present in in class live!

    Today we worked on a few case studies. Students were asked to read a situation and decide weather or not the young offender should be given a extrajudicial measure or sanction. Students were then asked to make a judgment on the penalty that the offender should receive and to justify their reasoning. Most students were able to finish this in class, if they did not it is required that they finish it for homework and hand it in on Monday.

 In our last block together we looked at why the British decided to cross the Atlantic ocean and come to North America. We looked at reasons such as : economy, competition, better quality of life and the freedom of religion. We also looked at where exactly the 13 colonies where in comparison to New France.

November 16th 2015 Day 5

Health 7E
     Today we continued to talk about what it means to be healthy. We looked at what factors in our own life contribute to us being healthy. We discussed and worked on activities on the physical aspect of our health, students were asked to look back at their weekend to see if they achieved the standard 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Students were also asked to fill out a weekly schedule to see if they are meeting this standard and if not to see where they could add in some more physical activity.
   Next class we look at how important sleep it to staying healthy!

    Today we had our Remembrance Day Ceremony. The students behaved appropriately Thanks you very much 7F.

    After the ceremony, Corporal Desjardin visited our class and the students had the opportunity to ask him questions about his work and what inspired him to enter into the military.

   Today we had our conversation presentations. Marks have been entered into PowerSchool. Next week we will continue on with our next unit of study.

      During this class we read and discussed articles from the Canada Remember's Times, a new paper published every year around Remembrance Day. Students were allowed to take these home if they wanted to.

     A big THANK YOU to all students in 7H who displayed great respectful behavior during our Remembrance Day Ceremony this morning.
      Today we started chapter 3 by viewing a few videos in regards to the English coming to North America. Monday we start our chapter 3 workbook.

November 9th 2015 Day 3

     Today we had a presentation today about an exchange program available to our Students. This is an exchange program with France. Many students took home brochures.

7H Social Studies
     Today we read the Canada Remembers Times. A news paper that is made each year around Remembrance Day. Students had about 25 minutes to read and discuss.

FSL 8
    Today we presented our final conversations.  We then relaxed a bit and watched some french magic school bus to end our first quarter together. We will resume our fashion unit after the November break.

     Today we discussed Remembrance Day we read some articles and discussed their importance and what we found interesting. We will continue with chapter 2 upon the return of the November break.

November 6th 2015 Day 2

    Today we had our Chapter 2 test. Students were asked to stay for a few minutes to finish the test after school if they needed too. ( there was an event at lunch)  I will be giving the students extra time on Monday to finish is as many didn't come after school or had to take the bus.

     As I mentioned to the class yesterday, there was a pop quiz today. This PoP Quiz was a formative assessment to see how comprehension is going during our first part of Chapter 2. Students who were not here yesterday will be writing it on Monday.

November 5th 2015 Day 1

      Today first watched a short video from Global news shoeing Justin Trudeau being sworn in as our 23rd Prime Minister. We then discussed in more detail What exactly does the YCJA entails and how it is used to protect ans rehabilitate young offenders. There was mention on a POP quiz on pages 5-6 in our workbook. Students are advise to review these pages tonight.

    Today we did grammar. We learnt about how to conjugate verbs in the ``passé composé``. Students learnt that in order to properly conjugate the verb they need to have both an `auxiliaire` and the Participe Passé. There will be a test on all the verbs we have learnt from the beggining of the year on November 19th 2015. The verbs are Présent, Imparfait, Future Simple et Passé Composé.

We finished the Lion King (1994) we then stepped into the world of 1995 animations and started watching Toy Story.

    Today was the students last class to study. Students were encouraged to ask me questions and study as hard as they can. They are writing the test tomorrow first block.

   Today we were able to get through part 2 and 3 of the french conversation. Students will be presenting these conversations during the next class.

    Today we started working on Chapter 2. Chapter 2 we will be discussing the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

  Today we started Unit 2 called ``A planet to save``. We will be reading news reports that will have to do with this topic. We will also be learning to write a personal responses to theses news reports.

    Today we discussed what it takes to be healthy. We determined that to be fully healthy everyone needs to be aware of their Physical Health, Emotional Health and Social Health. We will be continuing these discussions next class :D

   Today was an individual study period. With the sticky notes that the students wrote yesterday I was able to go around to each student and explain the concepts that they did not understand.    Today we Started our third unit. We are watching the progression of animation. Our first film is Lion King (1994) and we will be watching movies from 1994 all the way to 2014. We will be comparing the animations with a project at the end of the unit.

November 2nd 2015 Day 4

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween weekend.  Please be advised that Candy/Chips/unhealthy snack is only allowed in my classroom during the 12:11- 12:30 lunch period. Students will be asked to toss any and all candy that is found in my class during class hours. Healthy snacks are allowed to be eaten anytime in class as long as they are not distracting to other students.

    Today we started working on a few reading comprehension texts. We will be doing these periodically through out the rest of the year to help getting reading for our midterm and finals which are majority reading comprehension

    Today we finished off our chapter 2 notes. We talked about Pierre Radisson and his explorations of the great lakes and the Husdon's Bay.  Our second block we started studying for our chapter 2 test. Students were each given sticky note and asked to write 2 things they understand and 2 things they need help on. These sticky notes were handed in and will be reviewed in our next class. The test will take place on November 6th 2015.

     Today we started learning our first conversation. Students were asked to work in partners practicing the conversation that I went over with them.
