October 6th 2016 Day 6

Études Sociales 9D  - Today we continued working on questions concerning how the media influences our political decisions. We also started looking at what lobbyist groups are. There will be a quiz on Part 1A on Friday October 14th 2016.

PE 7G - Today we started working on some new volleyball skills. We worked on our hand eye coordination in attempts to keep the ball from touching the ground, first will small dodge balls and then moving up to lightweight volleyballs.

- Our second period we went into the fitness center to work out.

Leadership 7-  Today we discussed what is means to be Authentic. Students then took that new information and applied it to their term projects.

Homeroom 9F -  Today we decided to have a bit of fun and all wear plaid or flannel for picture day, In honor of Mr Verrart who is having fun teaching in Abu Dabi! Check out of Pic!

September 13th 2016 Day 2

- Today students continued to work on their first introduction project of a Political Cartoon about ``Active and Responsible Citizens``. This project is due on Thursday after their final work period during Block 1. Students will be quizzed on the introduction unit on Monday September 19th 2016.

- Today we revised the worksheet on political controversies. Our second block together we received a presentation for our admin team on the expectations our grade 9s face before entering high school. Students will be starting their first project tomorrow.

- Today students practices for the Conroy classic by running the Half block around the school. We then proceeded in to the fitness center for the rest of our class.

May 16th 2016 Day 3

Études Sociales 9F
- Today we wrote the chapter 8 test. Marks are up already.
- In our Second block we started our last chapter.. Chapter 9. We will continue the Powerpoint on Thursday.

Social Studies 7H
- Today was the chapter 11 test. If students needed more time they were advised to come at lunch for more time. Many decided to go and Run a track race instead of coming to finish a test. They will have one mroe opportunity tomorrow at lunch to come and finish the test.
- Tomorrow is our Chapter 12 presentation.

- Students spent another period working on their Independent Novel Study! Tomorrow is Check In #2. Students are expected to be halfway through their book and have completed Journal entry #2 at the very least.

- Today we had our chapter 11 presentation. The Chapter 11 powerpoint has been placed on classroom and students have access to it to study for the quiz on Monday. Students were also given time to finish up the chapter 10 quiz that turned out to be longer than expected from yesterday.

- Today we continued on our Independent Novel Studie. Our next ``Check in`` date is Tuesday May 17th 2016. Students should be completed Journal entry 2 and half of their novel by this date.

Today students had their last class to study for the chapter 8 test. The test was originally scheduled for today, but I move it to tomorrow to give the student one more day to study. They will have 2 periods back to back to complete the test.

Today we presented our Louis Reil  projects. We then used the rest of the time to study for our chapter 8 test that is coming up on Thursday of this week.

We continued to work on our marketing project for chapter 7. From the conversations I have been hearing I am really looking forward to Monday to see how these projects turned out!

Today students started writing their essay on the documentary we watched last week. Students have 4 periods and 3 evenings at home to complete this essay. It must be handed in By 2:31 on Thursday April 14th 2016  (End of our class together).

Today students wrote the Final test for our Novel "Enfant de la rébellion". Tomorrow we will continue working on the ER Final Project..

 This afternoon there was a sub in for during our 1 block together. I had warned the students before had that if they did not behave appropriately they would be stripped of the privilege of using their textbook for tomorrow's quiz.They all agreed and understood. That being said the students did not behave accordingly and their open book quiz that was scheduled for tomorrow has now been change to just a quiz. The students who did behave appropriately and respectfully towards the substitute will be able to use their book for the quiz. Thank you to those who know how to show respect to anyone and everyone who walks in their classroom to instruct them. I greatly appreciate it.

Today we had a wonderful discussion about the lessons learnt from the film Inside Out. It was great to see so many students who are normally very quiet taking the chance and actually speaking up! Keep it up!

 Today we finished off our review of the notes from before spring break. Students were then asked to complete the next section of work. This is due tomorrow and I will be taking note of who has completed it or not.

Études Sociales 
Today we continued with our notes. Students learnt about how the Red River Resistance was started and who and hwy Louis Riel became an important Métis figure in history.

Today we reviewd the questions and vocab for the 2 final chapters of our Novel. The Final ER test will be on Thursday April 7th 2016. Students should check Classroom for extra notes. It is also advised that students reread any chapters they may have miss understood over the next few days in order to refresh their memeory.

Today we started chapter 8 by creating a title page of images and symbols that students think will be important in Chapter 8. We will be going back to these title pages at the end of the unit to see if they were right.

Leadership 7
Today we started our final challenge. Students were introduced to our 7 Leadership Skills that make LEADERS. They were then divided into their groups and are to become exprets in one of these skills. Groups will then lead us in a active learning proccess during their assigned class.

This second block we started taking notes on the Métis of the Red River. Students learnt that they started to be pused off their land simply because they did not have the proper documents, and because the bison herds started moving west. Will they stand for this or will the rebel??? Students will soon find out!

Today we started going over the paged on the Métis that we had worked on before Spring Break. We will continue this tomorrow.

Today students wrote the chapter 7 test. They were only allowed 1 period and the lunch hour to finish the test. Most finished in class, while a few took the extra time and finished up.

Today students were given extra study notes for their upcoming test on Tuesday March 22nd 2016. They were then given time to study with partners.

FLA 7F
Students studied for about 10 minutes for the chapter 6/7 quiz. They then wrote the quiz. Marks are already up on PowerSchool!

Today students were given the opportunity to self evaluate their project that was due today. They were then told to exchange with a partner and work together in a peer evaluation.  Only 9 students were able to take part in this activity.  The other students had not completed their project to have then ready to hand in today. Unfortunately these students were not able to take advantage of the opportunity to correct their mistakes. Hopefully this experience will encourage students to complete their work on time rather then continuously handing projects in late.

Projects are due on Monday March 21st 2016.

Today we finished watching Inside Out. We then discussed the importance of understand our emotions and how they affect us but also affect those around us.

Today we went over important information for tomorrows test. Students are strongly advised to study this sheet of notes they took from the board. They will only be receiving 1 period and one lunch hour if needed to complete this test.

March 9th 2016 Day 5

Social Studies 7H
Today we discussed the railway that was to help untie the British North American Colonies as one country. We learnt that Canada's capital city was chosen by Queen Victoria and the reasons why Ottawa was the best place for it. We also talked about the advantages available to the Atlantic colonies if they joined the confederation.

To Start Chapter 7 students were asked to skim through the chapter, they were then asked to create a original title page that highlights 5 thins that they noticed while skimming and thought would be important. Students were asked to complete this for homework so we can staple them to their chapter 7 workbooks tomorrow.

Film Studies 8
We finished Space Jam and started The Smurfs. Students that handed in their projects on time thank you. Those that did not their will be a 0 place marker in Powerschool until such time that I receive the projects.

Today we finished off a few details with our Pi Day activity. We then started a movie where students are writing down all the leadership qualities that present themselves. We will continue this next week.

Today we went over the chapter 6 questions as well as the chapter 6 vocabulary. Students are asked to pre-read chapter 7 on their own so that when we read it together on Thursday they will have a better understanding of what is going on.

Today students kept working in the booklet. Tomorrow we will be going over the questions and having a class discussion about the Railway that helped to unite our country.

  Today we talked about working conditions during the industrial revolution and how those horrible conditions gave birth to Unions. This continued into one Unions protect workers, and what can be done if employers to not adhere to the laws that have been put in place for working conditions.

 Today we discussed what representation by population ("Rep by pop") means. We talked about what political parties existed during the time of confederation.  We also discussed what free-trade meant and how it affected the Canadian economy during that historical time, and why Great-Britain wanted to take more of a back seat when it came to their colonies.

Film Studies 8:
Today we finished watching Space Jame and started our second film in this unit of live action meets animation: The Smurfs! We will finish this up next class.

March 1st 2016 Day 6

Today the students that were missing were given time to finish their chapter 6 test. The other students were asked to skim chapter 7 and create a title page. 

Students who have not handed in their comic strip projects (1 week over due) have received 0s in PowerSchool. These 0s will be eliminated once the projects are handed in.

Today students were given an extra class to finish up the Comic strip project. These projects are due tomorrow. 
In the second block students received a review sheet for the chapter 6 test that is on March 8th 2016. We will be going over this review sheet together on Thursday.

Today we wrote the chapter 5 quiz. All students should read chapter 6 before tomorrow in order be able to understand the content better when we read it together in class.

Students were given an extension in their short progression project. It should be handed in tomorrow morning at the latest.

Today we worked on an assignment dealing with Supply and Demand. Students were asked to hand this assignment in at the end of class. 

 All Previous missing assignments have been marked as 0s in PowerSchool.  If you see a zero, please hand in the assignment as soon as possible so that I may eliminate the zero from your mark.

Today we finished off the the Bullying Unit. All students were engaged in a great discussion about bullying and what to do about it. We will probably continue this discussion next class as many students still wanted to share, but we ran out of time.

Social Studies 7H
Today students had the block to finish up their chapter 6 test. Those students that were away at Hockey Hooky will have time to finish their test tomorrow in class. 

Études Sociales 7F 
Students worked very hard on their comic strip project. As most students are going above and beyond on these project I will be giving them 1 extra period tomorrow (block 2) to finish off the project.  The due date is now changed to Wednesday March 2nd. The chapter 6 Test will also be moved to Tuesday March 8th 2016. 

Film Studies 8 PM 
Today we finished The Wizard of Oz , and started our first project. Students will have one more period to work on the projects and they will be due after said period.

Today was the due date for the Comic Strip project. Students that did not hand it in are expected to have it finished by the morning and hand it in. I handed out a vocabulary review during our class that is to be done for homework (we missed our fully class for the Term 2 Assembly). We will go over and correct this review tomorrow.

CHAPTER 6 TEST: Friday February 26th 2016

 Today we missed a portion of our class due to the term 2 assembly. Students had time to finish the final questions in the Chapter 6 workbook. I explained the Chapter 6 projects and students will start work on it on Friday in Class.

February 12th 2016 Day 1

  Today we watched a video about immigration and the struggles it can cause for immigrant families.  Students were then asked to complete paged 13 to the top of 16 in their workbooks using their text books.

Over the long weekend students are expected to do one assignment. This assignment has been designed to not need any technology. The assignment can be found on page 16 of their workbook, and must be handed in on a lined piece of paper, hand written and double spaced.

Today we had our first chapter quiz. We then read chapter 3 and answered the questions. Students are asked to complete the chapter 3 vocabulary for homework.

Today we worked on a graphing activity. Students were asked to graph the changes in population in the British North American colonies from the years 1806 to 1851. This is to be completed for homework if it was not finished in class.

February 8th 2016 Day 3

Études Sociales 9F
  Today we discussed what health regulations are put in economic immigrants hoping to come into Canada.  WE also discussed how the old immigration laws compared to the laws that we have now a days. We continued on and were able to start talking about how immigration has an affect in the Franco-Albertan community. We will continue this on Thursday.

Social Studies 7H
  Today we finished discussing the loyalist that moved to Nova Scotia to get away from the fighting during the American Revolution. Students were then asked to complete a section of questions on their own by reading certain pages in the text. These questions should have been done by the end of our double block. If not they are to be finished for homework.  Read pages 128-130 and answer the corresponding questions. Read pages 131-133 and answer the corresponding questions. We will be discussing these tomorrow.

 Today was our reading block! Students were reminded that if they have not finished the homework from the long weekend that they have until tonight to complete it. On Classroom : ER Chapter 1 questions & ER Chapter 1 Vocab.

February 3rd 2016 Day 2

  Today we continued with chapter 6. Today we discussed the difference between Patriots and the Loyalists during the American Revolution.

  Today we started chapter 6. We looked into what Identity meant and how and why our Canadian identity has changed over the years. We also looked into the American revolution and how that event helped shape and change our Canadian identity.

FLA 7F
   Today we reviewed chapter 1 of our New Novel Study. Students are asked to complete the Chapter 1 questions and vocabulary that are on google classroom for Monday.

Leadership 7
     Today was our first leadership class. We went through the course outline and completed our first Challenge! Students were given the scenario of being a first year teacher and they needed to make a set of rules that will help their first year run smoothly.  Students were then given time to complete a personal reflection. If you were not able to finish it due to technical reasons please finish them for next class.  ( classrooom Code rps5agj)

Études Sociales 9F 
   Today we continued talking about immigration policies in Canada. We learnt that potential immigrants are rated on a points scale to see if they qualify to enter our country as economic immigrants. Students were given the chance to try this test out themselves and see if as of right now would they be permitted into Canada.

February 2nd 2016 Day 1

   Great job to all students on a successful Social 9 Midterm. I was very proud of all of you!

      Today we started Chapter 5. This chapter is all about Canada`s immigration policy's. We started off the class by looking at the difference between immigrants and refugees. We continued working on some very useful vocabulary, that will be used through out the chapter.   Students are asked to finish page 6 in the workbook for tomorrow. This page discusses the Law on Immigration and protection of Refugees. We will be looking into this law in depths this chapter.

 Great Job to all students on a successful FLA 7 Midterm I was very proud of all of you!

   Today we started our second Novel study of the Year. This Novel is Called ``Enfants de la Rébellion`` and discussed the Rebellion in Lower Canada in 1837-1838. This corresponds perfectly with chapter 6 of the Social Studies 7 Curriculum that we will be starting tomorrow.

 Our first activity was to walk around the class and strike up a conversation ( in French of Course) with different partners with the help of the quotes ( from the all chapters of the Novel)  that I handed out. These quotes were used to spark the Students imagination and predicting skills to see if they could guess what the Novel is going to be about.

Students were then given some time after a class discussion to work on a title page for this Novel Study. I have asked that this be completed for homework for tomorrow!

We then dove into the book and read chapter 1. We will continue with a discussion and the chapter questions tomorrow. A lot of the assignments for this unit will be on the computer, so those that have tablets and or computers that can be brought to school please do so!

       Good job to all students on completing the Social 7 Midterm! It was difficult and I am proud of the results.

Today we started Chapter 6 - Becoming Canada. We discussed what Identity is. We also talked a little about the American revolution. We will continue this tomorrow. *** Students Please remember to be prepared with all materials needed for class: Textbook, Workbook, Pencil. Please also be reminded that it is great to have comments about what we are discussing but our hand need to be up in order to respectfully make that comment. ****

Today students finished off the chapter 4 quiz. Marks are in PowerSchool. Students then had the rest of the time to study in partners. Monday we will be studying for midterms and I will be handing out sticky notes for students to ask questions.

Today we worked on some practice midterm questions. Most students were able to get done booklet 1. We have 4 more booklets to work with next week!

Film 8
Today we stared watching the Smurfs as our fun last film of the course. We will finish this on our last class on Tuesday February 2nd 2016.

Social Studies 7H
Today we started our evaluation of the Chapter 5 games. We will do our next round of evaluation next week! Games looked great!

  Today students practiced their games to make sure that their rules, instructions and the game itself worked! We will start the evaluation process tomorrow!  Make sure all pieces are here.

Today was GAME DAY!! We took our two morning blocks to play each others games. They looked great and the kids were having a lot of fun playing!

As our second last class, students were working on completing their final projects. Tuesday the 26th will be our last class. Any assignments that are not handed in by that day will be subject to 0s.

Health 7E
Today students were given both our health periods to study for their midterms. Students were encouraged to make cue cards and to follow the study guides given to them by their teachers. Student were also encouraged to ask questions if they needed help.  First period was an individual study period and our second block students were allowed to study in partners. Our next health classes is on the day of the Math and LA midterms so we will not be having regular classes that Day 5. We will resume activities on February 10th 2016.

 Today was the last day to finalize the chapter 5 games.  Groups will be testing out their games tomorrow and the evaluation will commence on Friday January 22nd 2016!

Today each group practiced their games to work out any problems that may arrive. Tomorrow is the evaluation of the games! Looking forward to it!

Today we finished watching Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Students then had time to work on their final project that is due on Friday January 22nd 2016. Friday is our last class and we will be watching a special movie! Students can bring popcorn if they so wish!

Today we review chapter 4. There will be a quiz on Thursday. During our second block students started studying for their midterm. A hard copy of the midterm review was handed out and the electronic copy is still available on Google Classroom.

Today students had a double period of work on their chapter 5 projects. The projects are looking awesome can't wait to see the final results on Thursday!

Today we worked on our grammar booklets. These booklets are due on our last class that of January 26th 2016. Students were also given their guide for their Final Conversation. This conversation will take place on the 26th as well.

Today was our reading period. I took in the poems that students wrote on Friday. Any student that forgot them is to hand them in tomorrow morning first thing.

Groups started working on creating their game broads for their projects. Students are asked to make sure their background information is finished by Monday!  This was probably one of the most productive classes i have seen for each group! Keep it up 7H! I am looking forward to seeing the end results.

Today it was the students turn to write a poem. This poem will evaluate how students  use figurative language while writing poetry. This mini- project is due on Monday January 18th 2016.

Today we finished off chapter 4 we will review it on Monday, and then we will have a little quiz next Thursday. I will also be handing out a midterm review package on Monday. Students can access this on google classroom tonight in case they would like to start studying this weekend.

  Today we  looked at the collective rights of the Francophones in Quebec as well as in areas across Canada where they are the minority. We also stared looking at the collective rights of the Métis people and how they have changed through out the years. We will be finishing this tomorrow.

FLA 7F
 Today we looked at figures of style.  Students have also been learning this in English, so for our class it was more of a review. Students were then asked to write a poem in groups of 2  for practice. Students were ask to hand this in at the end of our double period. Tomorrow we will be starting to write our own individual poems.

Film Studies 8
  Today we finished watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory. We then started watching its remake.... Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Students will be asked next class to make a comparison chart comparing the two movies.

 Students continued working on the Chapter 5 projects. They should be finished the background information and should be starting to work on step 1 & 2 of the project.

  Block 1 - Today students reflected back on their lives and looked at what obstacles they have had to overcome in order to be who they are today. Students were asked to write a 1 page (double spaced) personal response on this topic.
   
   Block 4 - During our second block we made study calendars. We divided up our evenings between extra curricular activities and homework. Then we added in study time for their midterms.

Today we started Chapter 5. Students are working on their background information in order to proceed on Thursday with starting work in their Board Games! Students were send home with a STEP by STEP instructions with a timeline for when this project needs to be completed by.

 Today we started our last unit.....Remakes. We will be watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - then its remake - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Students will be asked to note the differences and similarities of the two films, one made in 1971 and the other 2005.

  Today we review the work we have been doing for the last few weeks. Tomorrow students will finish Chapter 4 and will complete and a worksheet that will be taken in as a sommative assessment.

    Today we finished off Chapter 4. We reviewed together and then students were given a worksheet to complete using their textbooks, This was taken in as a sommative assessment.

  Today I outlines our last 6 classes of FSL. We will be finishing up our Grammar Booklets that will be due on January 25th, Students will be allowed to take them home starting on the 19th to finish them at home if they need to. They will be returned on the 27th. We also started working on their Final Exam/Project. Students are creating their own french Conversation that will the be used with me individually on the final day of Class!.

Today we looked at the numbered treaties from the point of view of the First Nations. Tomorrow we will look at the Government of Canada perspective.

Today we started our Final Project. Students are creating a new soda pop for a Company in Quebec. This project is partly a Research project as students need to find all the expressions themselves. Project is due the 13th of January.

Today we started Chapter 4. We are looking at the Collectives Rights and Freedoms that are stated in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, specifically the Numbered Treaties.

Today we finished watching Narnia. during our next class we will be having a discussion about the personal obstacles that each Character had to over come to become who they are. Student will then be asked to complete a short personal response explaining what obstacles they have had to overcome to become who they are today.

Today we started Chapter 4.  We talked about First Impressions and different perspectives on the First Contacts. We discussed how the barter system worked and how there were 3 Key players in the Fur Trade in order to make the system work.
