February 28th 2018 Day 1

Études Sociales 7D ( Block 1 & 3)
Today we discussed the rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada and how no matter how small of event they may have seemed, they were able to incite change in the way the government was organized. During our second period we started work on our chapter 6 project... a comic strip explaining the key concepts of chapter 6! Students will receive 7 in class periods to work on this assignment. It is due on March 12th 2018.

Social Studies 7B ( Block 2 & 8)
Today we finished discussing just how difficult the journey was for immigrants during the Great Migration and just how hard it was to actually start a life here in Canada. We then discussed the rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada and how no matter how small of event they may have seemed, they were able to incite change in the way the government was organized. Tomorrow we will begin our Chapter 6 project!

PE 8EF ( Block 4 & 5)
Today we were curling! This was our final curling class of the year. Marks will be up over the next week or so.

DIY 8 ( Block 6 & 7)
Today, those who had not finished their notebooks got a chance to finish them up. Everyone else took the like to create some cute corner bookmarks! Starting NEXT DIY Class Students need to be bringing in their supplies to start working on creating their own products. Business plans are going home today.

February 27th 2018 Day 6

PE 8EF (Block 1)
Today we continued with our 5 on 5 Basketball tournament. Tomorrow we will be curling.

Études Sociales 9F ( Block 2 & 5)

Social Studies 7G  (Block 4)
Today we discussed the causes and the results of the Rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada. We discussed how the Durham report changed Canada from being two different colonies to one United Canada. Tomorrow we will start working on our Chapter 6 Project.

FLC ( Block 6 & 7)
Today we learnt some colors! We then took the time to practice recognizing the french word for specific colors. Students then got started on their culture projects.

Études Sociales 7D ( Block 8)
Today we talked about the Great Migration and how difficult the conditions were on the ``Coffin Ships``. We also talked about how life in Canada was not easy. Tomorrow we will talk about how the appearance of these new immigrants caused a divide in the society.

February 26th 2018 Day 5

Études Sociales 9F ( Block 1 & 8)
Students continued to work on their Immigration Magazine Project. The due date for this project has been changed to Tuesday March 6th 2018 by the end of the day! We will start our review for the Chapter 5 Test that day and we will be writing the Chapter 5 Test on March 8th 2018. 

PE 8EF (Block 2)
Today was our block in the fitness room. We will continue with our 5 on 5 basketball tournament.

Today we made our DIY Notebooks! They look sooo good!! Come pick them up tomorrow morning when they are all dry! Great Job Today guys!

February 22nd 2018 Day 3

Social Studies 7G (Block 1 & 4) 
Today students continued to work on the worksheet that was handed out yesterday. They all handed them back in to me at the end of our 2 blocks wven if they were not finished. I will be looking them over, over the weekend and handing them back on Monday to be finished, if they were not done.

PE 8EF (Block 2)
Today we got 3 games of our 5 on 5 basketball tournament in. Tomorrow there will be a sub and the students will be going to the North Gym to play Castle Pool.

Etudes Sociales 7D (Block 3)
Today students started a worksheet. They will continue to work on this tomorrow with my substitute. They will be asked to hand them in to the sub at the end of the double even if they are not finished. I will then look them over and hand them back to be completed in the next class together.

FLC (Block 6 & 7)
Today we for 40 minute on Duolingo. Students then spent the second 40 minutes, starting to create their skits! Just one period into these skits and already I am hearing lots of great ideas! Next day 3 we will start working together to write the skits down in FRENCH, and learn the proper way to say each word!  Next class (Day 6) we will continue working on our Culture project.

February 21st 2018 Day 2

Social Studies 7G ( Block 1 & 2)
- Today we started talking about the War of 1812: How it started, ended in a stalemate and what actually came out of it. We then discussed the importance of Tecumseh and his very large First Nations Army. We also discussed how this War launched an era of British Identity, not a Canadian Identity. We got a bit sidetrack and discussed how we don't really have one set Canadian identity or Culture as we are a very multicultural society and all those identities are represented in some way.

Études Sociales 9F (Block 3 & 5)
Students continued to work on their Immigration Magazine Project. It is great to see so many student come to class with folders of immigration stories from their past! I cannot wait to read these stories and get to know my students families a bit better!

Today we had our Friendly Firday, we played continuous Kickball with the boys class.

Today we watched an episode of CBC's Our Canada. This episode had to do directly with Immigration. We then started looking at our Immigration project. A magazine. This is Due on March 1st 2018.

Social Studies 7G (Block 4)
Today we wrote our first quiz for chapter 6. Marks will be released hopefully by the end of the long weekend.

FLC ( Block 6 & 7)
Today we finished up our Valentine's Day vocabulary activity, Watched the Olympics in French, Played some French games and learnt about the Culture project.

Études Sociales 7D ( Block 8)
Today was a study period for our quiz Period 1 on Tuesday! Study hard this weekend!

Today we worked on our first homework on the chapter. This was done on google forms but we had a few technical difficulties, in the end it worked out and students were able to get it done. Tomorrow we will be starting our immigration project.

Today we were in the fitness room. Tomorrow we will continue with our basketball tournament.

Social Studies 7G ( Block 3 & 4)
During our first block together students were asked to write a short story explaining the chain of event from the rebellion in the 13 colonies to the division of Upper and Lower Canada. Second period students were able to use this time to study for the quiz tomorrow. They were given five questions to make use as a study guide. Here are those 5 questions:

- What happened during the Rebellion in the 13 colonies?
- Who where the loyalists and why did they want to move?
- Where did the loyalists move too?
- What did they divide Québec into?
- How did Govenor Haldimand  get the land west of Lake Ontario?

Today we un-molded our soap! They looked and smelt awesome! We then started work on our business plans. These will be due by the end o our next class together. Remember to bring some lined paper to our next class for our notebooks. You can also start saving pictures to your google drive for the cover page! Have a great weekend and enjoy your soap!

Today we started our 5 on 5 basketball tournament. This will be our last basketball tournament and then we will be on to our next unit!

Études Sociales 7D (Block 3 & 4) 
Today we continued discussing where the Loyalists went when they came North from the US. We discussed how the area called Québec was now divided into 2 halves. Upper Canada (Ontario) and Lower Canada (Québec) . This separation helped point us in the direction of creating a bilingual country! As a quick formative assessment students were asked to write a short story explaining the chain of event from the rebellion in the 13 colonies to the division of Upper and Lower Canada. We will have a study block on Friday and a Short Quiz on Tuesday Next week on the first 5 pages of our workbook.

Today students learnt about the provincial immigration programs. These programs allow provinces to select a percentage of immigrants based on their economic and employment needs.

Today in FLC we Spent 40 minutes working on our Duolingo! We then decided on our partners for our Speaking Project. Then since Valentines Day is tomorrow we learnt some holiday vocabulary, we will be continuing this activity for a few minutes on Friday!

Social Studies 7G ( Block 1 & 2)
Today we started chapter 6. We spent the first period watching a few videos that explain the entirety of Chapter 6. We then started looking in more depth the first part of Chapter 6.... the Rebellion in the 13 colonies also known as the American Revolution!

Études Sociales 9F (Block 3 & 5)
Today we continued discussing how our Individual Rights and Freedoms, and the Collective Rights influence our immigrants.  We talked about the Singh decision and how that changed how refugees can apply for refugee status in Canada. We discussed how immigration effects the Collective Rights of our First Nations Population.  We finished off our 2 classes, discussing the difficulties and possibilities that Immigration provides for the Francophone communities in Alberta.

Today we had one more period to work on our Monde en Marche. We then watched a few videos that explained in brief what our upcoming chapter will be about! Becoming Canada. We will officially start chapter 6 on Monday. Have a good Teachers Convention break!

Today was SOAP day! We made some melt and pour soap. Students will get to un-mold and package this soap next Thursday! We also started to work on our business plan for our New mini business.

February 5th 2018 Day 6

PE 8EF ( Block 1)
Today we continued our 3 on 3 basketball tournament. Tomorrow we have a double and will be playing castle pool in the north gym and then continuing the 3 on 3 tournament in the south gym.

Études Sociales 9F ( Block 2 & 5) 
Today we started talking about immigration (chapter 5). We discussed the 4 different types of immigrants, the differences between a law and a policy. We looked at the objectives of the Law on immigration and protection of Refugees, and discussed them in our own words to make sure we understood them. We took the point system test to see if we would be able to immigrate to Canada with our current level of education.  We also started to look at some reasons why some immigrant applicants might be refused entry.

Today we worked on a set of Weekly News. This is due on February 12th 2018. Students are advised to take this home and finish it over the Teacher Convention Break.

French Language & Culture 7 ( Block 6 & 7)
Today was our introduction class. We discussed the schedule for the course as well as the types of projects they can expect to complete.  Students got set up on our google classroom, as well as our Duolingo Classroom. Students are advised to bring a pair of headphones every Day 3 to class in order to work on the Duolingo website for 40 minutes. If they do not have headphones it is not a big deal.

- Today we worked on our first Monde en Marche of 2018. These are due on Monday February 12th 2018. This coming Monday we will be starting our notes on Immigration.

Today we were in the fitness room. We will continue with our 3 on 3 basketball tournament on Monday.

Social Studies 7G (Block 3 & 4)
Today we had our game evaluations! It was great to see everyone engaged and learning the chapter 5 concepts by playing each others games.

Social Studies 7B ( Block 5) 
Today students were given their first 2 Weekly News articles of 2018. They will be given another period to work on these on Tuesday February 6th and then they will be due on February 12th 2018.

DIY 8 (Block 6 &7)
Welcome to the first class of DIY 8. Today we looked at the syllabus and make a web of ideas of everyday items we could make ourselves. On Tuesday we will be starting our first DIY project.... Melt and Pour SOAP! Please make sure to bring a duo-tang!!

February 1st 2018 Day 4

PE 8EF ( Block 1)
Today we started a 3 on 3 basketball tournament. We will be continuing this for the next few classes. Tomorrow is day 5 we will be in the fitness room!

Etudes Sociales 7D ( Block 3 & 4)
Today we got to play the games we have been working so hard on. Each group got to play a maximum of 3 games. They then proceeded to evaluate these games. I will also be evaluating them and hopefully marks will be up sometime next week.

Etudes Sociales 9F (Block 5)
Today we started talking about immigration. We mentioned how not every immigrant who comes to Canada becomes a citizen, but if they were they would have to take a citizenship test. We decided to see if we would be able to become citizens if we had not be born into it. We attempted to answer as many questions from the 144 question test that we could. It was great to see each and every student super involved in the test! Tomorrow we will be doing a Monde en Marche and Monday we will officially start chapter 5.

Social Studies 7B (Block 6 & 7)
Today we got to play the games we have been working so hard on. Each group got to play a maximum of 4 games. They then proceeded to evaluate these games. I will also be evaluating them and hopefully marks will be up sometime next week.

Students will be given 2 weekly news articles tomorrow. We will work on them tomorrow as well as Tuesday next week.. They will be due on February 12th 2018
